I was gonna comment more, but it didn't add anything. I'm not gonna add stuff to the list either. Nice list.

Ok, yes I will: Bill O'Reilly, Massive Attack, David Fincher, Good Will Hunting, Trainspotting.

Avoid the movie A Clockwork Orange. It was hyped up and shitty. [censored] shitty. I thought it had potential but it was [censored] over. Maybe the book is better, but I felt lame after watching it.

Impy, is this gonna be a monthly column? lol, anyway...
DUDE, I thought I was the only person who'd ever seen Boiler Room. It's suprising that the movie isn't popular considering it's good and included both Vin Diesel and Ben Affleck. Anything with Ed Norton in it is also an excellent choice. Have you seen 25th Hour yet?
Good list, but you included the wrong version of Romeo and Juliet. This is the one you mean't to reference wink We watched 3 versions in English class, the Leo DiCaprio version is the least true to Shakespeare. And even though the one I recommend is rated PG, Juliet's boobies are clearly visible throughout the whole movie. Did they have push-up bras back then? It's also the most true version. A point could be argued for yours since the soundtrack is quite good and Baz Luhrman is an excellent director.
Now I recommend:

Oliver Stone

Metallica
Cheers! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/cheers.gif" />

Almost forgot: MiniDisc
and Cats(Household Pets)

[Ok, I thought about editing this after realizing how stupid it is, but I'll keep it this way for entertainment purposes...]

I downloaded Boiler Room off kazaa a few years ago. The next week I went to Hastings and bought it, it was very [censored] awesome. I saw some of Glengary Glen Ross, but didn't finish. If you liked BR, watch GGGR.

I recommend that Metallica go sue some more people and make more songs about the [censored] Sandman. Yeah, that's right, I hate Metallisuck.

I want to see 25th Hour, but they did that limited theaters [censored]. Same with Equilibrium, but thankfully I got to see it at a lan with a screener copy my friend borrowed. Beautiful.

Posted By: dashocker Re: Impy Recommends - 06/06/03 05:18 PM
I love how people only know that Metallica sued Napster(Where is Lars' honorary business degree?) and that they have a song about a Sandman...

EDIT to avoid taking up space: Ok, I've never heard of that before. How do you think James was supposed to pay for his rehab? Duh smile And it's not hard to find their "good" CDs, go to Best Buy. My local store has every album.
Posted By: Cold Sunn Re: Impy Recommends - 06/06/03 05:56 PM
And that they sued foriegn furniture and perfume companies. I have alot of respect for people that sue over [censored] like that, really. I like every one of their singles, and I love sitting on broken glass.

Yeah maybe they have some good music tucked away a decade ago, but I don't plan on looking for it.

the 25th Hour

Rage Against The Machine (well, most of their stuff....their last album gets a thumbs down)
Posted By: Cold Sunn Re: Impy Recommends - 06/16/03 11:16 PM
Yes, Renegades was like some kind of [censored] disguised as an RATM cd. I hate being the guy that says how bands sold out, and how their old stuff was great, but here I think it's true. This is their only cd that I don't like.

The Score, this movie was disappointing. It had Edward Norton (Edward [censored] Norton!) and Robert DeNiro ([censored] DeNiro!!) and Marlon Brando (...well, he's that guy), and it wasn't a completely awesome movie. If you watch American History X or Heat and so on, you think, "Wow, what a great movie." Here, it wasn't the case.

Watch The Score, then watch Heist. The Score was supposed to have twists at every turn, but really it only had 2 "twists" and you could see them coming from the box alone. Heist on the other hand, is a great movie. This is the only exception to the "Any Bad DeNiro Movie Is a Gene Hackman Movie" rule.
Posted By: Imperial Re: Impy Recommends - 06/16/03 11:37 PM

hrmm... nice list impy smile oh, but to whoever started talking about metallica, yeah.. they are one of the shittiest bands i've ever heard. but that's just me. i hate them. arghh! so, i will add a few things that i suggest. cuz i'm so [censored] cool that everyone wants to know what i like.

MUSIC:
- Depeche Mode (i love all of it, but if you've never heard 'em, listen to their stuff from the 90s before you hit the early albums. if you listen to the early ones first, you'll be terrified.)
- Nine Inch Nails (just good [censored])
- Mindless Self Indulgence (makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside)
- Tweaker (excellent beats and pretty damn good lyrics) microsize! arghhh!

MOVIES:

- Spaceballs (yes that's right... it [censored] kicks [censored].)
- Dune (excellent sci-fi movie. hells yeah!)
- American Psycho (great tunes, excellent story. plus the dialogue is fantastic.
- Equilibrium (better fighting scenes the matrix... much beter plot. a really great film.)
- Donnie Darko (great music in this one too. plus the story is unique and original... for the most part.)

Other things that just kick [censored]: (other than me)

kung fu movies
casey's pizza
cigarettes
coffee
lotion with sparkles in it
my computers
my new shirt
tech tv
anime

i'm sure there are more, but if Impy is turning this into his monthly column, i have to save some for later! i know you're all holding your breath in anticipation.
Posted By: Imperial Re: Impy Recommends - 06/18/03 03:35 PM
Depeche mode also gets a nod, I have all their cds somewhere. So far from Depeche Mode I really liked "Little 15" and "Sweetest Perfection"

oh and just for the hell of it

Bjork

and her trippy [censored] music gets a nod
Posted By: dashocker Re: Impy Recommends - 06/18/03 07:21 PM
ok, everyone who hates Metallica can die, die, and burn in hell! lol, unreal and I will go crawl in a hovel and listen to our "Master of Puppet's" in peace! Good point there Cold Sunn, I thought "The Score" had much more potential than that. Heist was a damn good movie, though.
Let's see, now to add an addition:

Al Pacino
Sweet Home Alabama

How are you gonna put your tiny dick in our mouths if they are closed?

Equilibrium was awesome, but it did not have better fight scenes than The Matrix (in my opinion). They did rule, extremely. The entire concept of Gunkata kicked [censored]. Much better plot my [censored] [censored] though, no way.

eh... i just think the matrix is way too over rated. it wasn't that good. i haven't seen the second one. i have no desire to, just cuz the first one was so shitty. might see the animatrix though, cuz cartoons rule. yay!
Posted By: SilentRage Re: Impy Recommends - 06/20/03 12:01 PM
spoken like a true girl. Matrix is a MAN'S movie. wink Although, you just know there's people out there who put matrix down just cause it's so popular. People like to be contrary.
Posted By: Cold Sunn Re: Impy Recommends - 06/20/03 03:50 PM
Kinda like how some people will put up Hitler just cause he's so hated.
Posted By: dashocker Re: Impy Recommends - 06/20/03 06:51 PM
Ohh, burned...
Posted By: fleshwound Re: Impy Recommends - 06/20/03 11:49 PM
uhhh... cold sunn that one had better not be directed towards me. i don't talk about hitler cuz he's hated... i find him to be a very interesting man. i've been reading stuff about him since i was 13. it's not just cuz he's hated. he had a life outside of being a nazi. he had a childhood.. had a family. and it just interests me to see how an innocent child can turn into something like he did. that's all.

and SR, i like a lot of things that guys like... the matrix just didn't appeal to me. that's all. just like how i hate the new star wars movies, not cuz i hate star wars. i love the old ones. i'm just not down with CGI graphics in movies. seems like they have started to rely on them way too much. they care less and less about the plot and the acting and concentrate on the graphics and how "badass" they can make it. that doesn't sit well with me. but that's just me! i know a lot of people like that stuff, i just don't. i'm not the typical girly girl that dislikes "guy" things. i just don't like movies that are based mainly on CGI.
Posted By: SilentRage Re: Impy Recommends - 06/21/03 12:19 PM
we're just playing with ya fleshwound. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. My "contrary" comment was directed at you also, but I was a little bit more subtle than coldsunn by hiding behind a "guys movie" theory. wink

IMHO the matrix plot is good - an innovative idea. That reality is really virtual reality, and anything is possible in that virtual reality. It's sci-fi but it is realistic. There are other movies that played like what we consider "reality" to be is nothing more than a hoax. Dark City is one such movie and I like it rather well also. But Dark City is about aliens, and it just didn't have the same appeal that a virtual reality does. I mean, what is cooler than getting a jack in your head and plugging you up to a virtual reality and downloading all kinds of information and crap into your skull? laugh

Don't let the CGI graphics distract you from the other coolalities of the movie. I don't see what the big deal about CGI graphics is anyway. I've heard other people complain about it, but I don't mind it at all. I LIKE it even.

Ok, well, I've gotta stop arguing about it now. Something about your fanatical opinions makes me just DIE to argue with you. laugh

And btw fleshwound, the plot thickens in matrix 2. That neo is "the one" turns out to be a big joke played by the machines to continue to subjugate the human mind. There has been many "the ones" in the past. You really don't give matrix the credit it deserves.

another edit, another P.S:

My contrary comment was only half a joke though. Maybe you don't take an opinion and stick with it just BECAUSE it's contrary. But I think you like to look for alternative thinking - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Like in hitler's example. I'm sure one day you were like, why does everybody hate hitler? Then you go research for reasons to like him. Finding several reasons, you're like "damn, this guy is pretty sweet". Then you go off and tell everybody about it and then when you get the expected reaction, gleefully argue your case.

In the case about matrix, I think it is slightly different. *Everybody* loves it so you watched it and found reasons to dislike it.

This is what I call fanatical opinions. There's good and bad about everything, and fanatically opinionated people concentrate either on the good or the bad. In every debate, in every opinion or stand I make, I try to bring out the good AND the bad. Except in the case where I'm arguing with fanatically opinionated people in which case I take the other extreme and try to balance the person out.

Example: micheal jackson

fanatical against: That guy is screwed up man, he molested children. I hate him!

fanatical for: I love his music! I love that guy and his style, he didn't molest children, never had a thought!

balanced opinion: dunno about molestation, really can't know for sure. But I like his music, although his personality seems kinda screwed up to me.

Darnitall I need to shut up. Ok, I'll tell you guys right now, I won't make another post off topic in this thread. smirk
Posted By: pergesu Re: Impy Recommends - 06/21/03 01:05 PM
SilentRage I HATE you! I haven't seen it (Matrix 2) yet. And Neo's not really the one? Man... show some damn consideration :\
Posted By: SilentRage Re: Impy Recommends - 06/21/03 03:28 PM
I didn't describe the end of the movie. There's a twist. Now go watch the damn movie.
Posted By: fleshwound Re: Impy Recommends - 06/21/03 08:05 PM
hehehehe. well, i do love to argue with you SR. laugh about the whole contrary comment, i got that one, just decided to not [censored] about it. oh my god! yeah.. i let that one slide. haha. perhaps i don't give the matrix enough credit, but oh well. i don't like it and you can't make me like it SR! ha! how you like that [censored]? laugh hehehe. j/k. anyway... yeah. i heard it the matrix reloaded looked cool, but that the ending was lame. i heard that from two different sources. plus, i don't really have time to go see it. i have two jobs and am working on starting up the business with jonathon.

i still don't like CGI though.

oh yeah.. the reason i started researching Hitler was cuz when i was 13 i had to read a biography and give a huge report about the person. most people picked rock stars or famous athletes. i wanted to do someone in history, i couldn't do Caligula cuz it was all too sexual. so i chose Hitler. i wanted someone who was interesting and perhaps a bit misunderstood. plus our school library had a lot more books about him than about Caligula. i also gave Vlad Dracula some consideration, but decided against it because again, too hard to find info about him at the school library. (yeah.. our library sucked [censored])
anyway, it wasn't because there is such a stigma attached to Hitler, it's cuz he was damn interesting and i couldn't really do the first two i wanted.

Boondock Saints was a great movie. The Animatrix ruled. I liked basically all of it, but I hated the animation style in World Record. Most of them added bits of story or aspect to the Matrix. You can goddamn eat yourself if you didn't like this movie.

Imperial tells me on aim to go see 25th Hour on dvd. I go to the video store, and they don't have it. I can almost understand not having it in theaters because my town is so shitty, but why not have it on dvd? Is there something about this movie that makes it so bad? They carry shitty movies no one has even heard of, pornography, and movies with the worst language I've ever heard. So what could be worse than those? And if it's not that, is it just because my city blows [censored]?

Phone Booth was fantastic. I watched it, and I loved it. It wasn't just interesting and actiony, there was actually a very emotional scene. I was surprised, I mean, I could really feel emotion coming out of this movie. More so than movies that are supposed to make you feel. It has style, alot of style.
