If you want a DVD+R BestBuy has one (8x write, some they have are 5x write) for around $69 after rebate ($89 before). I mention this as you claim yours is $49.59 but tiger sais $89.99 (plus shipping you're lookin upwards to $120 dependant on what you choose).

As for the mobo/proc, I'm going with a soyo board for my machine with an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ proc, equals a bit cheaper than what you're goin at...
Mobo $114
Proc $107

for cases however, with my beast I'm wiggering together, I'm going with the Aspire Super-X Alien
mmm, goodness...

Oh, also; last i bought from tigerdirect shipping was atrocious, you should really look for a differant retailer.

hea gizmo should i build a computer or just buy one made for 500 and than upgrad that what whould u do
Posted By: Gremelin Re: what to buy - 10/10/04 04:52 AM
I'd build my own (as I'm doing)...

I'm goin with a Soyo Mobo, AMD Athlon XP Proc (3200+) and then slowly upgrading the ram (up to 4GB, as the 1GB sticks I found are $320 each).

Anandtech Benchmarks

Here is a quote also from another Anandtech article that you gamers might find interest in

Quote:

AMD owners have much more of a reason to rejoice: the Athlon 64 runs Doom perfectly. It's almost as if the game was built to run best on an Athlon 64; maybe AMD should invest some marketing dollars in their own "The way it's meant to be played" campaign. And to make things even better, you don't even have to have the fastest Athlon 64 to get great performance, even the meager 3000+ manages to offer performance equal to that of Intel's Extreme Edition Pentium 4 at a much lower cost. The key to AMD's success is the on-die memory controller; with lower latency memory accesses than the competing Intel solutions, Doom 3 sees system memory as one big cache and drives performance up considerably. It is also the on-die memory controller that makes cache size less of an issue on the Athlon 64, while too small of a cache seems to make or break performance with the Pentium 4.
Don't feel like looking up much more. I wouldn't say they are worthless, course you can have your own opinion. I would say the price is not worth the benefit for the FX-53. But the lower end of the 64s do show enough of a performance benefit to warrant paying a little more money for a 64 than a 32, even using a price/performance ratio.

i have a question
when i whent to compuvest.com to see how much win xp pro cost it was 48.00 because i am a student do you think this is ajoke or should i realy see if it realy is only 48.00
Posted By: Spyrios Re: what to buy - 10/20/04 02:45 AM
It's probably not a joke, there are student versions of software that are pretty cheap. I'm not sure what the dfferences are. Microsoft estimates that the upgrade student version should cost about $100. I have been researching this and if there is any difference between them i can't find it. You can also get Office 2003 student and teacher edition for $129.

Most companies have student versions that are about $100 off; the catch, you must have a student ID card heh
