i need a router so i can share my cable connection... i've seen some for as cheap as 30 dollars and some reaching the hundred range such as the lynksys(however you spell that). the guy at the store told me that everyone except the lynksys was worthless. however, i like cheap prices. just wondering if anyone could drop some reviews of routers, it would help me get in the know. thanks
Linksys is good hardware, in my opnion, some may disagree with me, but in my opnion go for it..........Damn I just realized how drunk I was.....lol
i like my D-Link DL-704. It's quick, reliable, and has an easy html interface to set up with options like: DMZ hosting, optional remote administration, access control, DHCP, and virtual services. I pretty sure most routers have this stuff or at least they should. But at least mine doesent over heat like an SMC barricade........
sin, the linksys routers do the same, all cheap routers have about the same options... expencive ones depend on telnet with http interface options, but they can be exploited.
Yeah i agree with Gizmo, but BackSlash if you want a good router than i think you should consider CISCO products, they're the best, empowering the internet generations, but as you said you like cheap pricess they're not cheap at all but they're the best you can get. I'd suggest you Cisco 2600 Router a really great one. I've used cisco routers for a long time, a lot's of cisco products and they're all pretty great.
If you need any help around them or something just drop me a line.
Cisco's are very nice, I in fact wish I had a 2600 model, the easiest to take over online so long as you change your default pass you're cool... but if you have a cisco and you don't disable telnet you're not allowed to connect on dalnet hehe...
someone donate me a router
...
heheeh, if you want, i'll steal one cisco router 2600 from the lab of my cisco academy school and donate it to you eh ? hehehe...
Damn they're very very good, i like them a lot and use them every single day, they're so cool, but just so expensive too.
omg i'd bow hehe... especially if i got 2 :-x
don't donate to gizmo for free, make him give you head or something...
well he sounds like a good guy so heheeh i dunno, maybe i send him one for free... than after that i make sure he gets a $1 milion dollars bill.
hehehehe
j/k
lol "what, i didn't buy a thing, router? whats a router? I have a linksys one but i paid $100 for it, I don't understand!" <snicker>
Cisco still Rulezzz hehehe
get a hub or switch :-x
i chose my switch because i was able to give each comp its own ip addy without having to configure stuff and this and that
ugh i hated my router
lol, and plus, the switch is only like 50 bucks
yeah the switch is cheaper but a switch can't compare to a Router SephiroX, there's a lots more options you can do in a router than a switch and there are differences in their role. Switch takes part in the layer 2 and Router in the layer 3 (OSI Model). Just a small explanation.
see ya
some people probably don't want to have seperate ip addresses, because the cable company can notice. i think a router can make it appear to be one computer.
yeah that's right BS, coz if you use a router, only the router gateway IP address will be seen by others on the internet, and behind that router you can have thousands of computers and nobody will know, coz they only see the gateway IP.
Routers are really really great...
lol today here in my cisco academy, i had to make a project about the Wan Design chapter, it's so [censored] cool...
see ya
