Dump the Ethernet cables and wireless configurations. Electric outlets with broadband capable chips imbedded in them are being developed by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., says the company. The technology will be at CEATAC, October in Tokyo.

Matsushita claims the ability to send data over electric wires at rates up to 170 megabits per second, faster than any existing Ethernet. They are also talking about smart refrigerators, televisions and other products.

This could let you turn your air conditioner on by a cell phone from outside your home. But for now an adapter will retrofit the outlets for hooking up Ethernet ready devices. Matstushita is in talks with the Japanese govt. to allow the devices.

Better make sure you have one of those "all home" surge protectors... I plan on having one in this house by 2007 (when funds will permit)
That is great news, I carnt wait for that tech to be available in Australia to the general public. Then we can all have Bill gates Washington Lake mansion style houses, well not exactly but closer then current times.
