<Apology> Yes, I'm a n00b and this is my first post... I'm also sorry for how long this is going to be, as there is a lot of background for it... </Apology>

O.K. I recently downloaded the Auditor security Live-CD and have been running it on my laptop (Acer Aspire 1692WLMi) but I am unable to use the wireless card.

So that I could (attempt to) change and update the kernel, i decided to instal it to H/D. Although it's a Knoppix Live-CD, it installs as a (very) customised version of Debian.

Messing around with that and Googleing for any help, I found out that the WiFi card (Intel Pro-Wireless 2200BG) is disabled by default on loading and requires the hardwired switch on the front of the laptop to be pressed to activate it...

Unfortunatly, Debian dosn't recognise the switch.

I downloaded acerhk.tgz which is the recomended fix for this, but the way that the Auditor version of Debian has been made, it is unable to make the file after untaring...

If anyone knows of a work around for this to activate the hotkey, without having to use acerhk, I would be very greatful for the info...

I've spent a good 6+ hours on the net trying to find something, so anything you can suggest would be GREAT!!!

Cheerz.

P.S. I've only been using linux abt 4 weeks, so a walkthrough would be handy...

P.P.S. I was going to post this on the Auditor forum, but it appears to be down, and having read through a lot of posts, you all seem to know your stuff to a really high level... (apart from sounding like really nice people...)

P.P.P.S. Sorry for all the P.S's... lol wink

OMG. Could these be a first post form someone that has both spent the time looking himself, has a knowledge of the subject matter, and is polite?

I have seldom every seen this before. It is beautiful. /me bows to you.

I am not familar w/ a workaround save the acerhk, but what kinds of errors do you get when trying to make it?

During the make, it's looking for the usr/kernel/src file to compile to, but the distro dosn't apear to have one... Not that I can find anyway...

Btw... Cheerz! I read a fair few of the other post's n saw the (Justified!) intolerance and flaming of lamers who knew nothing and wated it all handed to them on a plate...

I don't use linux much, but I believe you should install the kernel source package for your kernel.

Try http://www.debian.org/doc/user-manuals#apt-howto if you are unfamiliar with using apt.
