Drying up fuel supplies, as well as war fears, means Americans are paying more at the pump. Research conducted by the American Automobile Association shows that in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Oakland petrol was up over the $2 mark.

This is a two year high and could be a threat to economic recovery in the USA. If the prices continue to rise, and it is thought they will, we could see a record fuel price in the States.

A spokesperson for the API, which represents the oil industry, said "We're in the same fix we were in two years ago, and nothing's been done to fix the problems that existed then." On average, fuel prices leapt by 5.6 cents per gallon in a week.

Prices have been up and down. I recall not even a year ago paying upwards of $1.90-$2.00 per gallon for 87 in San Diego.
