BEA Systems Wednesday released a raft of new developer resources at its eWorld 2004 Conference aimed at developers building service-oriented architectures (SOAs).

Several of the new offerings from the San Jose, Calif.-based vendor are available on its dev2dev developer portal. BEA also introduced the SOA Technology Center, which offers best practices, guidelines, patterns, white papers, code samples, Webinars, interviews and demos for helping developers build SOAs. The center is available at http://dev2dev.bea.com/technologies.soa/index.jsp

In conjunction with The Middleware Company, a consulting and research firm for J2EE and .Net development, BEA also has created a set of blueprints for building SOAs. The blueprints provide real-world implementations of how applications can be deployed in SOAs and demonstrate how developers can use an SOA to solve business issues, according to BEA. More information about the blueprints can be found at the SOA Technology Center on the dev2dev site or at http://www.middlewareresearch.com

In addition, BEA launched dev2devLive, which delivers free, 24x7 access to online education and training events, as well as question-and-answer discussions with some of the industry's top engineers. Dev2devLive can be found at http://dev2devbea.com/community/dev2devlive/index.jsp.

BEA also made available free packaged and open-source controls for its WebLogic Workshop Java development tool in the WebLogic Workshop Control Pack. The offering is a set of controls that help developers leverage the Web services capabilities of Amazon, eBay, Federal Express, Google, PayPal and UPS transactional Web platforms, according to BEA. Controls are pieces of code that allow applications to be used as services by other applications.

BEA also is sponsoring an open-source community to host, promote and collaborate on enhancements around the controls in the offering. Controlhaus, a sister site to the open-source community codehaus, will host the new initiative, according to BEA. The new Workshop control community can be found at http://www.codehaus.org
