Denial of Service Attack on British Police - 12/08/03 03:58 AM
Police in Cambridgeshire have been targeted by spammers with a denial of service attack which aimed to block the force's switchboard.
People had been receiving mails saying that their credit card was to be billed for a 40GB iPod MP3 player costing 399.95. To stop the transaction they needed to phone a 'customer service' number, which was the Cambridgeshire police main switchboard.
The reply mail address was "ukcards.com", which seems to be a portal with links to finance, loan and gambling Web sites. The subject line was "transaction receipt".
