The US government is reportedly investigating technology to block sunlight as an "important insurance" against climate change fueled by rising emissions and is asking world scientists to develop the technology.

Options being considered include giant space mirrors and pumping reflective dust into the atmosphere. According to scientists reflecting 1% of sunlight could cancel out all greenhouse emissions since the industrial revolution.

The US government, while accepting that the planet will increase in temperature by up to 5.8 degrees this century with a 90% probability that humans are to blame, is pushing for voluntary instead of binding agreements on emission reduction.

Okay, does anyone else think this is retarded? Reflective gas, space mirrors? How much money would you guess we will spend on this?

Maybe it is just me, but blocking the sun could lead to some things we haven't thought of. Oh like global cooling, dieing plants, and lets not forget the OOOOooops effect. Oops a little too dark.

Plus we are still not doing anything to stop the CO2 output. Sometimes I think we hire the handicapped to run this country.

lol, we're too handicapped to do anything properly wink...

I think bush has watched the highlander movies one too many times...

yea no [censored] right. Maybe he should watch the matrix and see the bad side of doing it.

Well, this idea is a mirror image of one of the highlander movies; they created a shield to block out the sun and send us into a never ending night due to pollution, and conner (who helped make it) tries to destroy it...

Not sure which one it was offhand though...

The Russians had thought about doing this during the cold war and the American states were strongly against it. Just because the Russians were going to use it as part of their war machine doesn't mean the States won't try.
The Russians liked the idea of lighting up a night battlefield or darkening one, as well as melting ice caps to create floods in valleys below and starting mass bush fires and increase UV rays, etc.
I don't approve the idea because its side stepping the underlining problem of CO2 emissions. Why not lower those instead of trying to put a giant foil wrap in space.

It seems many things he have been opposed to throughout our history we the US are now doing ourselves. Everyone is equal, some are just more equal than others.

HEY!!! that was my quote before I changed it like a week ago. Animal Farm scared the [censored] out of me, we read it for school and after it I hated pigs. Even though it was a paradox I still hated them.
