Vicious Worm Will Start Eating Files Today
Security experts are warning the public to be especially alert as the Klez.e worm variant is timed to activate today.
Klez.e started spreading last month, but lay dormant. Today, the worm will attack certain kinds of files on infected computers, including spreadsheets, graphics, and text documents, and replace them with garbage data.
The worm was one of the fastest-spreading in February, and because of its initial quiet period, many people may not even realize they are infected. Users are advised to use updated virus scans, or special tools, to ensure they don't have the worm.
