I just downloaded and unpacked Ettercap. But I'm lost as to how to proceed from here. The installation instruction given is as follows:

The easiest way to compile ettercap is in the form:

./configure

make

make install

If I'm not mistaken, this is the script for Unix/Linux command. How can you compile it under Win32? BTW, I don't have Visual Basic.

Well...in his case, it was about unzipping the damn file. Mine is about how to get the thing off the ground once you managed to fattened it back up from its squeezed state. Plus, I got lost in the ever-wandering conversation between what and what are needed to "unarchive"...and yes I've already achieved that.

Basking in the light of ignorance don't come cheap these days as you made it so abundantly clear...but some guidance for us uninspiring brethren could help...especially when you don't know what you're talking, no I mean questioning about (pun fully intended )

Anyways, long story short: If you want to use ettercap in windows you need to compile it in CGYWin, a unix like environment for windows. A quick search on google will hook you up with url for it.

All right, I've just downloaded CygWin... & I remain clueless. Since I don't know any Unix commands, and my barely minimal knowlege of DOS commands wasn't even recognized by the damn console, I'm wondering if anyone could just spit out the script commands to access the directory where the Ettercap file is stashed -- namely, c:\program files\ettercap. And, yeah, learning Greek was never my cup of tea

'cd' works like it does in dos

'ls' is the same as 'dir'

uh... what else do you need?

rm is del
rmdir deletes a directort

well it looks like your doing this in windows...hence the need for cygwin. but, you might have missed that in the previous post about ettercap, while the persons question was about unarchiving the file, your answer still lies within the topic. i posted a link to ettercap for windows. all you have to do is untar it, and it should have the ettercap.exe file right there.//
