Hello everyone.

I am running windows XP pro and I recently downloaded a TCP logger Packet Monitor program. I cant get it to work properly. It asks for "Remote Port:" "Remote Server:", and "Local Port:". The program is called "Advanced TCP Logger V 4.00". I have no clue how to find out what my port #'s are. Can anyone help me.

Thanks for the help, to everyone that responds!

P.S. Does anyone know of good loggers that I could try?

I'm not sure I understand your question. You downloaded a port monitor then it asks you for your local port? Then You have no clue what your port #'s are? Do you want to know all your port #'s and what they do? As far as port monitors go i am not fimiliar with Advanced TCP Logger. The one I use and would recommend would be TCPview which can be found here Here
If they helps in no way, please explain a little more what exactly you mean.

Ill try to explain my question further. Im not sure if ports are static. What i mean is say port 799 is it the same on all cpu's? What i thought is every Cpu Randomly gives its ports #'s. If ports are static for all cpus do you know what i would use for the "Remote Port:" "Remote Server:", and "Local Port:". I am going to take a look at TCPview.

Thanks for respondin' Shinobi!

Well the ports on all computers are the same. The do somewhat vary. (example: ssh uses port 22 where Internet explorer uses port 80) These are the same for all computers. And I am not sure, but I would say if it has a place for you to input the remote server and remote port. I would say that you would type in the server and the port you want to monitor and the local port you want to connect through maybe. Again I am not fimiliar with that and this is only a guess since I have never see this program before

I tryed the link but it says "Not found" thanks for trying to help me! Ill try to restate the question. My goal is to get a program that logs all the packets that go thru my modem. I have the Advanced TCP logger program(Which can be found on http://download.com.com/redir?pid=101426...1-10142626.html but i dont know which port is for my modem....is there a specific port for modems? It seems as if ports are used for individual programs. anyway i hope that clears things up a bit.

Ports access the internet via programs, they don't just sit there and wait for a connection...

OKAY! Im trying to run my TCP logger. I used Shinobi's TCP view to find out what port IE is using. and in my TCP logger i put that port in the "Local Port" box. Does anyone know what i should put in "Remote Port" and "Remote Server"?

Does the TCP logger have a help file along with it? I checked out their website http://www.kmint21.com/atcp2log/ and I didn't find much on how to set it up, or things like that. There is a technical support section on the page so you can e-mail someone with your question. You can try that and see if you get a decent response. Again I can't be of much help on this since I have never used it.
