for linux, i really liked Linux(Hacking Exposed).
It was pretty intresting and theres some cool shit in there. Its not as good as the networking hacking exposed book, but this isnt bad either.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. The best Sci-fi novel I've ever read. It has four sequels, and they'll keep you busy for at least three months.

P.S.: I know that this is an old thread, but it's still listed as important, so I figured that it would be ok to post on it (besides I've used the term "groundbreaking" to describe this book a couple of times.)

this thread is exempt from the "let it die" rule so are a bunch of others (should actually state that in them); else the "groundbreaking" rule applies hehe

Magic the gathering series,

They are a take off of the cards and the stories a brilliant. If you like that cards or like interesting stories i found these to be entertaining and page turning. The dan brown books aswell are excellent. And a bit of topic but the computer magazine PC extreme is good reading aswell.

awesome book. all about a white hat hacker and cracker who... mmm, maybe il try this out in the review section.

Also, Dean Koontz wrote a Book called Fear Nothing. The sequel to this was Seize the Night. There was supposed to be a sequel to Seize the Night (these three books were known as the Christopher Snow Trilogy)
However, this was about 3 years ago.
Iv searched online in vain for word of the third unknown book. Dean Koontz has, of course, published many books since Seize the Night so i was just wondering if anyone on the boards knew or heard of him finishing the Christopher Snow Trilogy.
(the books fall under the science fiction genre)

Well The Rule of Four is kind of like the Da Vinci Code in many respects.
But where the Da Vinci Code focuses on the biblical realities between the church and the Holy Grail, The Rule of Four focuses more on the academic side of the relationship the church had with scholars and members of secret societies.
The Holy Grail in this book refers to actual academic works that was banned by the church.
Works by Michaelangelo, Donatello, Gerdi that to this day have actually never seen the light of day... (literally)

Okay all of you who like compilers and shit need to read The Pragmatic Programmer. It's the best book out there. Doesn't teach you a particular language or any techniques for coding really, it's more a book that gets you to critically analyze how you develop software, and hopefully improve on it. Fantastic book.

Read 1984 by Orwell. In honesty I haven't read it but after Utopia by Tom More I will. I don't know what it is about yet, the little I read on it on amazon points towards a Matrix style manipulation of the history of man or something.

"Accelerated C++" is an excellent book for the programming list. I know a guy creating a solutions page for the book if anyone is interested.
