Sony has waded into the handheld gaming market yesterday, finally unveiling the PlayStation Portable, or PSP. At the same time Nintendo unveiled its new handheld gaming machine, the DS, which boasts a dual screen.
The president of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Kaz Hirai, said "PSP will enter an already crowded marketplace, but one with many opportunities." The PSP promises numerous multimedia capabilities.
The PSP is able to play music and movies of a DVD quality. Games on the handheld console are almost as high a quality as those on a PS2. An analyst at KBC Securities said: "As a gaming machine, I'm not as excited..."
