So it is pretty simple, you go into regedit and find and delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile.

What they do not warn against is that once you delete this entry the shortcut folders will fail to appear in all "save as" windows.

Example1: you write in notepad, click save as and you will not see any shortcut folders.

Example2: you click save target as when downloading from the internet and again shortcut folders will not appear in the window.

You will have to save to somewhere else eg. desktop and move them manually.

Now I am not 100% sure that deleting HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile causes this but I did notice this error within 5 minuted of deleting the entry.

So what do you after this? I have no idea. I didn't save the entry before I deleted it. Though I am pretty sure registry cleaners out there could fix it.
I don't know how to recreate the entry either frown

Actually went through the entire listings on TweakUI, found nothing that solved it. Ill keep at it.
(There was no 'ratio' button).

Fixed it.
I removed the shortcut arrow by deleting the isshortcut entry in the registry.
To add or restore the entry again you can download this zip file from source and unzip RestoreArrow.reg only (the others are not needed for restoring it). Click the unzipped .reg file and it is all good again.

Like the source suggests, removing the IsShorcut.reg entry can cause problems with features and programs that use links, which is what happened to me (shortcut folders disappeared in 'save as' windows).

Again, if you want to remove the arrow without my particular problem I found using TweakUI/explorer/shortcuts shortcut overlay options works. Thanks Giz for directing me to said software.

You can use any tweakUI software that are free in the internet.
If your not using Windows XP, I'm not sure if ti works in Windows 98/ME.
But it works fine in Windows 2000/XP , no errors with the tweakUI software.
