Sony has announced that it is launching a Walkman digital music player which can store 20-gigabytes. Sony say it can carry 13,000 songs, more than Apple's iPod which can store 10,000 songs and Sony have undercut the price of an iPod too.

The Network Walkman NW-HD1 is to be launched on July 10th in Japan and should hit the US market by mid August. A September launch is planned for Europe. The US price will be under $400 compared to $499 for an iPod.

The new Walkman comes 25 years after Sony released their first groundbreaking portable music player. Sony's first Walkman was released on July 1st, 1979.
