Recent speculation that the United States may be seeking military confrontation with both Iran and Syria are not correct, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Dismissing it as an "urban legend" he claimed that Bush's recent stern warnings to the two nations came after speculation that both countries were providing support to Iraqi insurgents, and that the remarks were not a warm up to an attack.
However, Bush has recently sent an aircraft carrier strike group and Patriot missile defence systems to the region. Many are viewing this as a warning to the nations, though the White House states that diplomacy remains its primary goal with Iran.
