GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A man has pleaded guilty to cutting down a pine tree at a Michigan airport. Bart Bellin says he did it because he couldn't afford to buy a Christmas tree.
Police say they cracked the case because Bellin dropped his checkbook at the scene. Officers went to his apartment and found the tree.
After being scolded by the judge, Bellin called it "a foolish choice."
He said it took only a few minutes to cut down the six-foot tree with a handsaw. It happened November 28th at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.
Bellin pleaded guilty to larceny and destruction of property. He'll be sentenced in February.
The tree was given to a family.
