Well, since not everyone may be interested (or skilled) in chess, a few of us in IRC have come up with a new idea for a site-wide game: Texas Hold'em Poker.

The idea so far is this:

Site-wide Limit or No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament.

If you've ever seen the World Series of Poker on ESPN, you should know what No-Limit Hold'em is. In this style, you may bet all of your chips at any time. Limit is a bit less dramatic, but the entirety of your chips are safe, unless you bleed them off little by little.

I'm looking into ideas on how we can incorporate many members into free tournaments using available software. The only problem is that I don't see much of a way to ONLY have UGN members play. Meaning, there may be quite a few strangers playing as well, if that's acceptable to everyone interested.

So far, I'm looking into the direction of PokerStars' software for their nightly multi-table no-limit freeroll tournaments. This is a rather large tournament (1000-3000 entrants!), but this would be a good way to create a UGN player ranking board.

This is still in the planning phases, so post here if you'd be interested.

Sure thing. The tournament I'm thinking of is held nightly at a certain time...if you sign up, you won't miss it.

Let me know if anyone has any better ideas.

Well we would need to have a registration for this so for registering i think that anyone who wanted to opt in, would email registration information to people arranging the registration. They would send such information such as when they are availible to play and their skill level. After a certain ammount of people register, we would put a tournament ladder up a few weeks ahead of time (so any changes that were neccesary could be made), of when the matches are, who is involved in them. We would try to match up skill levels up just for the sake of more interesting games, instead of a completely one sided one. This could all probably be carried out within a month. I dont know anything about that software, but if its anything like yahoo that has many seats per game it would make the job much easier. This is definatly going to need a ton of people. I dont know how easy it would be to get 1000-2000 people to register, thats my biggest concern. I think that a goal of 500 would be a tad more realistic, not to mention more manageable, but if you can get 1000-2000 im all for it.

I'm not looking for 1000-3000 UGN participants, definitely not. I meant that the tournament on PokerStars often has 1000-3000 people playing from all over. Hell, we could start this up with only 5-6 people, and it'll still work.

If we all get into one tournament, a leader board could be made based upon who busted out of the tournament when. With a tournament of this size, it's not possible to match people up as you can in chess. It'd be necessary, at least with larger tournaments, to use my suggestion.

I'd be up for it, but dood why not a poker leage like the chess leage, not a tournament. Tournaments are so short, and pointless. Unless you are planing on doing the cash shit. In which cause I'd suggest you know what your doing unreal. Whatever ppl start, esp associated or affiliated with UGN. Because you need licenses, and other shit for gambling. Even online now, because it's become such a thing. Meh You can chance it if you want too. But as per said being affiliated with UGN, I'd think that'd be bad. Ppl get sued, or the site gets sued, esp by the law...it would be bad. Liek...sheep baaaaahd. Hope my input helps. I'd be up for some beating of unreal in poker;]

I wasn't planning on a money game, even though I'd very much like to. I'll look into a poker league like you said weeve...what does that entail?

EDIT: Oh yeah, bring it weeve. I'll beat your ass in some mad hold 'em action. :X

I'd be interested, as long as someone can remind me which hands beat which hands. And I don't know how to play this hold'em game, but we can play rummy poker, if you guys want.

I'm still trying to find a tournament-style fake money program that we can have private games on. I've found software that allows us to play a normal "ring" game on a private table (like at a casino), but there's no way to create tournaments. I'm still looking.

heh I just saw a short msg, and a edit by you on it. that didn't look like it needed to be edited, unless you got real mad, and called someone a fuckin small cocked egotistical bastard. But I doubt you'd do that heh. SO I was wondering why you edited it. Btw does anyone else think anne heche was hot in volcano? Also I wonder if I can get a pic of the digital image at the end all big as volcano deep in L.A. With Status: A.C.T.I.V.E on it. Heh That'd be a pwn backround. I'd even print that on a iron on, and put it on my backpack for college! Yes...I still have iron ons:/

uh huh...that's what you waaaant us to think:/ heh
btw Bish, weeve, Jedi Knight, Ghost, and 6 guest(s) WTF is up with that? lol mostly all I ever see are like 2 users which is me, and someone that's there. Maybe I need to be on at more human then liek...vampire/alien type hours huh? Btw the Poker league shall commence imo only thing stoping it is a freakin game section on forums, a sub domain(both easy to do, first for chess too), and a proggie that's free, that can do up to 8 player poker matchs with a server run by unreal, and a client to connect. Maybe one of us can work a deal for one or something. But this is a small call out for some help imo. So we can just do. If not, then we'll improv, probably one of us will get to coding.

Alright bishes, listen up. If any of you guys wanna throw down with either perg or I for some real cash, here's a decent opportunity to do so:

http://www.partypoker.com

Either go here to register:

http://www.partypoker.com/index20100.htm?wm=2020757

or

Sign up as normal with the promotional code "UGN". 20% increase on your first deposit or some shit... and we can take your money. ;D

*ahem* Now that that's taken care of, the rest of you just sit tight. We're working on a ranking system for the (free) official UGN Poker Tournament at the moment.

I don't see the big deal over this game. I played on Yahoo poker for 20 minutes and made twice as much as I started with. It's like all other gambling, really. Sometimes you get lucky and the five cards that come out make you a good hand.

I am signed up at PartyPoker for play money. When I get my year end bonus I will deposit the money for poker and kick some ass.

Also, looking for a online poker game or something like that, possibly with audio (select who you want to talk to), even if a service online so me and my friends could use real money and play each other only??

JC, good deal on Party, though I haven't played there in a long time. When you get set up in real money, lemme know. I'll probably deposit and we can pwn some bitches. Don't ask perg, though. He's a terrible player.

Anyways, I haven't heard of any audio services.
