In what is believed to be the first case in regards to BitTorrent software, Can Nai-ming in Hong Kong has been found guilty of copyright infringement after he illegally distributed three Hollywood films using the software.

Chan's sentencing is due on the 7th of November. He has been released until then on 5,000 Hong Kong dollars bail. The maximum sentence for a file-sharer in Hong Kong is four years in prison and a huge fine.

Commerce Secretary John Tsang said of the sentence that "This ruling means a lot," in terms of the movie industry's fight against global movie pirates.
